Limitations of a
California Confidential Marriage License
There are 3 California Confidential Marriage License limitations:
1. The confidential marriage license is valid only if your marriage ceremony takes place in the county it is issued. So for example, a confidential marriage license from Los Angeles County is only valid if the for a Los Angeles county wedding.
2. The couple must state that they are already living together as a married couple. The state does not list a time limit for this shared residence and there is no way for a notary to check this. However, if you do state that you are not living together, the notary or county must refuse your confidential marriage license.
3. If there is a need to access the information, the couple must send a notarized copy of a Request for a Confidential Marriage License, but this is to protect your information.
